A Scottish university has struck a deal with Australian education provider Navitas Ltd in a bid to increase its international student intake.

Under the agreement, Navitas, which runs university programs and student recruitment, will have access to Edinburgh Napier University's teaching and accommodation facilities.

The Perth-based Navitas will create the Edinburgh International College (EIC) at the university, which currently is one of the largest tertiary institutions in Scotland.

Edinburgh Napier vice-chancellor Professor Dam Joan Stringer said the move would strengthen the university's focus on international students.

"Partnering with Navitas will allow us to increase our international cohort through a supportive learning environment that will ultimately ensure integration with our mainstream courses," she said in a statement.

Navitas chief Rod Jones said the new college was an outstanding opportunity to consolidate his company's position in a key market.

"The University has a reputation for providing cultural and social support to students to enhance their learning experience an approach which fits well with Navitas' commitment to quality services," Mr Jones said.
