A Gold Coast man accused of murdering a pensioner will remain behind bars while his alleged accomplice is extradited from New Zealand.
Police believe Daniel Thomas Dwyer, 46, was a victim of a robbery after being discovered dead with his hands and feet bound at his unit on August 8 last year.
After a five-month investigation, Labrador man Dustin Johnston, 36, was arrested on Wednesday, while a 19-year-old was also taken into custody in New Zealand.
Johnston appeared before Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday to answer to one count of murder, but did not enter a plea.
His defence lawyer Jason Buckland made no application for bail.
Police prosecutor Greg Overton told the court a third man was being investigated over the murder.
A police spokesman would not confirm this, other than saying Operation Golf Batini was continuing.
Outside the court, Mr Buckland said the police case against his client was weak despite the five-month investigation.
"So far I've been provided with seven pieces of paper, so I expect to receive a mountain of material over the coming weeks," he said.
"But from the seven pages I have received, it seems that police do not allege my client was directly responsible for this man losing his life."
Johnston and his alleged 19-year-old accomplice are set to appear before the same court on February 17.
Mr Dwyer, a pensioner, was earlier described by police as a loner who enjoyed red wine and playing loud music at his Biggera Waters home.
"He kept to himself," Gold Coast Acting Detective Inspector Nev Huth told reporters.
"His life seemed to be fairly basic."
