Six people including four young children have been injured in a two-car crash near Tamworth in rural NSW, paramedics say.
Emergency crews were called to the collision on the New England Highway at Willow Tree, south of Tamworth, where paramedics worked in 42-degree heat to free and treat the injured, a NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
A seven-year-old boy with head and abdominal injuries and a five-year-old boy with neck and facial injuries were airlifted to Tamworth Base Hospital in serious condition.
Two adults, aged 40 and 50, were both taken to the same hospital by road ambulance in a serious condition after suffering multiple injuries.
A baby of unknown age and sex, who was in a capsule, is in a stable condition, while a five-year-old girl travelling in one of the vehicles is also in a stable condition.
A section of the highway is closed while investigators look into the cause of the crash.
