South Africa are determined to bounce back against Australia in the one-day international cricket series, which starts on Friday at the MCG.
Proteas coach Mickey Arthur acknowledged Australia's wins in the two Twenty20 matches had wrested back the momentum this summer, ahead of the five-match one-day series.
But Arthur expected his players to respond to this challenge despite having acknowledged the gap between the two sides was greater in limited-overs cricket than it was in Tests.
"Even though we are building for the future, I'm expecting our guys to come out firing," he said on Wednesday.
"I'm expecting our guys to not stand back at all and I'm expecting our guys to be hugely competitive through the one-day series."
South Africa expect to have a full-strength squad to pick from on Friday, as batsman AB de Villiers is likely to be available from the bruised hip he suffered when struck by a Shaun Tait delivery in the first Twenty20 match on Sunday night.
Allrounder Jacques Kallis, who was rested from Tuesday night's second Twenty20 match, will also be available.
