Diners Club accounts out of reach

By Chris Zappone

Thousands of Diners Club credit card users have been unable to access their account history since the middle of June because of a botched technology upgrade.

The outage has stopped at least one business customer from finalising her year-end accounts.

A note posted on Diners Club online portal said, "Due to a system upgrade, some transactions on your account may not appear on your Online Transaction Summary." It instructs customers to call for information on specific transactions.

''It's impacted our business,'' said the Diners' customer who works at a small business. ''The last statement I paid was about $13,000 of which I only had paperwork to support about $5000 of the transactions.''

''I am missing written documents for the last four days of the financial year, so we cannot close accounts and send them to our accountants until the next (paper) statement turns up or they turn the online system on.''

The source said representatives at Diners' call centre in the Indian city of Bangalore had asked her to pay balances based on verbal advice.

''Diners Club members may have experienced service interruptions due to maintenance and system upgrades,'' the company said. ''As a result some members may not have been able to view their statements and information online as usual.''

''Diners Club has rectified the cause of this issue and expects any outstanding processing matters to be resolved imminently,'' Diners Club Australia said.

The credit card issuer said it was working with clients on a case-by-case basis to resolve individual problems.

Sources close to Diners Club said the issue was triggered when Diners Club accounts were migrated to the Citi's system.

The latest account glitch comes weeks after Commonwealth Bank's NetBank platform was taken off line, leaving thousands of customers unable to access the past account history on their transactions.
