Channel Seven's camera catches a Macquarie Bank operative getting distracted from his work.

''SAVE Dave''. That's the battle cry from supporters of David Kiely, the Macquarie Group staffer who was caught on live television looking at semi-nude pictures of Australian model Miranda Kerr on his work computer.

Now a groundswell of support has sprung up to save the job of the private-client adviser.

In London, a website called Here Is The City has called on its readers to email Macquarie Group's media team with the words ''Don't fire David Kiely'' as the subject title.

The email address provided is that of Macquarie's media team, mediaquery@macquarie.com, which has been inundated with messages of support for Mr Kiely from around the world.

The operators of the website have provided a list of reasons for saving Mr Kiely: ''He seems like a nice bloke''; ''The pictures weren't hardcore''; ''He's suffered enough'' and, finally, ''There's just too much political correctness in this world anyway''.

One email to Macquarie Group's Sydney office, from ''Kate'' implored the bank not to fire Mr Kiely for his transgression of company email policy.

''If he's an intelligent man (he is working for you after all), it's a mistake he will never make again,'' she wrote.

''Give the lad a chance. Numbers are not that exciting really - I mean, we KNOW they're important, but some days you just need a bit of entertainment/eye relief to rest the brain a moment before ploughing on. It was a bit silly to not realise the cameras were rolling behind him - but

at least he wasn't picking his nose.''

Another email from ''JR'' said: ''Political correctness is driving us all mad, please do not add fuel to the fire. Reprimand the silly man, but do not let him go.''

On Facebook a number of groups wanting to ''save Dave'' have sprung up.

As of last evening, no decision had been made by Macquarie Group regarding Mr Kiely's future with the company.
