Public spending rises

Australian public sector consumption and investment rose 0.8 per cent last quarter to a combined $63.32 billion, implying a modest contribution to economic growth in the second quarter.

This series feeds into gross domestic product (GDP) figures, due on Wednesday.

Tuesday's release showed general government spending rose 0.8 per cent to $50.16 billion in inflation-adjusted terms in the three months to end June.

Investment spending by the government and public enterprises also rose 0.8 per cent to $13.16 billion in real terms in the second quarter.
