RBA offers $US10b in repo tender

November 20, 2008

The Reserve Bank will tender $US10 billion ($16 billion) in its third US dollar repurchase auction as part of a global effort by central banks to meet desperate demand for the US currency.

The RBA said today the 21-day repo would be held on November 21.

This was only the third RBA repo of US dollars after it and a number of other central banks established and then expanded US dollar swap lines with the Federal Reserve. This tender will bring the total amount leant to $US32 billion.

The facilities are aimed at meeting strong demand for US dollars during Asian trading hours.
