Obama says he has a 'strong inclination' against second stimulus

September 15, 2009

US President Barack Obama says he has a "strong inclination" against implementing a second stimulus package to further prop up the ailing US economy as it remains mired in a recession.

"I have a strong inclination not to do it," Obama told CNBC television on Monday when asked about whether he would support a second aid package following his massive $US787 billion ($913.15 billion) plan passed by Congress in February.

"But obviously, we're monitoring the situation very carefully," he said.

"My bottom line is, how do we make sure that the economy is growing robustly again? Because actually, that would probably have the biggest impact on our deficits."
