Bentley used as getaway car

June 28, 2011

There's been a second high-profile home invasion in the last few days with a fortune in jewels and a luxury Bentley stolen from a home on the Gold Coast.

The owners who were at home but in a different part of the house had no idea they'd been robbed on Monday night until they noticed their two-door Bentley worth around a quarter of a million dollars was no longer in the garage.

The car with personalised plates "MONKY" was seen on CCTV footage leaving the exclusive gated community at Hope Island, driving sedately away at 7.30pm.

The robbery bears a striking resemblance to a break-in on the weekend at the home of mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, in which a high-powered Ferrari California - one of only five in Australia - was stolen.

The car, worth 500 thousand dollars, was later found burnt out in bush north of Newcastle in the NSW Hunter Valley.
